Many people that play video poker are going to try
and hit a pair or a flush or a straight and continue
playing. The problem with playing small ball as you
might call it is that it won’t work in the long
run. If you want to win at video poker you have to go
for the home run all the time.
Much of the time when you are playing video poker you
are not going to have much other than a high card. You
are going to have to make decisions on these hands and
your best bet is to go for the big score. You are not
going to hit the jackpot very often but you must try
for it. This is not a popular way to play though. For
example, if you have an Ace and a pair of eights, most
people are going to hold the pair of eights. The proper
longshot strategy though is to hold the ace and go for
the jackpot. You won’t hit it very often, if it
all, but some chance is better than no chance and that
is what you would have had you held the eights. If you
just want to have fun and play then hold the small pairs
and try and stay in the game. If you want to hit the
jackpot then use the longshot strategy.
If you want to win at video poker then you must hit
the jackpot at least once in a while, and that takes
some courage because you have to be willing to lose
in order to increase your jackpot chances.
